Our client, an established manufacturer serving the heavy equipment industry, is seeking a Chief Engineer to provide technical leadership for the development of advanced mining equipment. This is a highly influential engineering role with responsibility for machine architecture, system integration, performance, reliability, and the technical decisions that shape the development of next-generation equipment.

You will work across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and field teams to move complex machinery from concept through validation and launch. Utilizing your deep off-highway engineering experience and strong systems-level thinking, you will lead the integration of complex machine technologies into high-performing, reliable equipment engineered for the demands of mining applications.

Your Mission

  • Shape the engineering strategy for the development of next-generation mining equipment
  • Define how major machine systems work together to deliver the required performance in severe-duty applications
  • Guide key technical decisions throughout concept development, design refinement, testing, and launch
  • Bring together mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermal, and structural considerations into a cohesive equipment platform
  • Evaluate overall machine behavior and identify opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, stability, and durability
  • Lead the investigation of complex technical challenges that cross multiple systems or components
  • Provide technical direction during prototype builds, field evaluation, and validation activity
  • Partner with internal teams and external suppliers to resolve development issues and keep programs moving forward
  • Strengthen engineering discipline through clear design expectations, sound technical judgment, and consistent review practices
  • Capture technical decisions, lessons learned, and development findings in a way that supports future product improvement

A Few Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, with an advanced degree preferred
  • Significant engineering experience within mining equipment, heavy equipment, or other off-highway vehicle applications
  • Demonstrated success leading complex machine development or systems integration work
  • Strong knowledge of heavy-duty mobile equipment and the interaction between major machine systems
  • Familiarity with hybrid or electrified technologies and their application in off-highway equipment
  • Experience supporting prototype development, technical validation, failure analysis, and structured engineering reviews
  • Strong analytical thinking with the ability to make sound decisions across complex technical issues
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and other technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with international engineering or supplier organizations is beneficial
