Our client, a global construction equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Dealer Development Manager to shape how its products are represented and supported across North America. Based in the Southeast, you will identify markets where the company can strengthen its presence and establish relationships with equipment businesses capable of representing its compact and heavy product lines.
You will combine market intelligence, financial analysis, and direct business development to move prospective dealers from initial contact to a successful market launch. Your understanding of dealership economics will also help established partners address performance challenges, evaluate expansion opportunities, and prepare for changes in ownership or market responsibility. This is an influential role requiring credibility with business owners, close coordination with field sales leadership, and regular travel throughout North America.
Your Mission:
- Create a market-by-market plan for where representation should be added, strengthened, or replaced
- Identify and approach equipment businesses with the resources, reputation, and market reach to represent the company successfully
- Assess prospective partners based on their leadership, facilities, financial capacity, customer relationships, and ability to support the product
- Move qualified prospects through evaluation, negotiation, approval, and appointment
- Define mutual expectations for product investment, sales activity, customer support, and market development before launch
- Coordinate internal sales, training, service, parts, finance, and administrative resources around each new relationship
- Help newly appointed dealers establish the staffing, inventory, facilities, and commercial activity needed to enter the market successfully
- Use sales performance, market potential, and dealership economics to determine where focused support or additional investment is needed
- Work directly with ownership teams to strengthen results, expand into new markets, or address obstacles limiting performance
- Anticipate ownership changes, market exits, and other situations that could disrupt customer coverage
- Present leadership and field sales teams with clear recommendations regarding the future structure of the dealer network
- Develop practical evaluation and planning resources that improve decision-making across the organization
A Few Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience
- Five or more years of business development, sales, or dealer-facing experience within the construction or agricultural equipment industry
- A successful record of opening markets and converting prospective partners into productive dealer relationships
- The ability to evaluate dealership performance using financial statements, operating metrics, and market data
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with the presence to influence business owners and senior leaders
